THE VINEYARD Our CRU Cabernet is deeply rooted in the vineyards of St. Helena that surround our estate, with about 60% of the fruit coming from neighboring growers. Each year, we hand-select the balance of the blend from different parts of the valley to layer together a delicious, well-rounded and beautifully balanced wine that expresses the nuance and character of the Napa Valley. Fourteen vineyards play a role in the CRU bottling, including valley floor and mountain Cabernet and Malbec, valley floor Petit Verdot and Merlot, and bench land Cabernet Franc blocks, which all contribute to the juicy approachability and great structure of CRU Cabernet.
THE VINTAGE 2019 vintage was spectacular from start to finish. Some areas of Napa Valley recorded as much as 40-50 inches of much needed rain over the winter. The wet soils delayed budbreak and additional April rains provided a fully saturated environment for the vines. Spring weather was mild and ideal for fruit set and the summer of 2019 was phenomenal, for both the vines and the vineyard workers. Very few heat spikes and a long, drawn out growing season provided excellent, uniform ripening across all varietals.
THE WINE 2019 CRU Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is quite possibly our finest effort yet. Deep red Bing cherries, black cassis, dried lavender, and chocolate covered espresso bean aromas lead to a fresh, fruit forward entry and a rich, concentrated mid palate. Structured, mouth watering acidity and firm, balanced tannins provide framework for this velvety textured, expressive and polished Cabernet. The finish is long and carries for several seconds leaving the consumer wanting another sip. The 2019 CRU Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is carefully crafted using gravity flow and meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a gorgeous wine that is fresh and enjoyable upon release and will age gracefully for well over a decade.
