After Escobar's death in 1993, large reserves of the potent product were confiscated from the kingpin's Medellin compound by a Colombian narcotics task force, evidence that would destroy the Medellin Cartel once and for all. However, systemic corruption within the task force caused the reserves to fall into the wrong hands.
