New Celebrity Tequilas!

Written by By Annemarie D'Alessandro, September 14 2020

If you’ve been keeping up with our blog lately, I’m sure you’ve read through our post about celebrity spirits. On that post, we aimed to cover a celebrity spirit of each type, and unfortunately, we only carried two of the spirits from that list. Well, not anymore! We’ve recently acquired bottles of two more celebrity spirits. If you’re interested in the varieties offered or the celebrities behind these bottles, read on!

TEREMANA TEQUILA – BLANCO AND REPOSADO

Teremana Tequila is brought to life in a small Mexican town of the Jalisco Highlands. Everything about the process is locally sourced and uses practices that allow the tequila to be sustainably made, that way we can look forward to having it for years to come. The agave that is used in the tequila is also brick oven roasted for three whole days! This method really brings out the citrus flavors in the final product and the leftover fibers are used as compost for the agave fields. Towards the end of the process, the tequila gets distilled in copper pot stills that were handmade by a local artisan! Teremana seems to be committed to not only taking care of the grounds and the crops, but also the people who work in and around the area. The work this brand does throughout the process really makes you feel good about purchasing a bottle!

If you haven’t heard about Teremana Tequila before this post, you may not know who the founder is. He is one of the most fit celebrities out there, and it comes to no surprise that he would make a tequila with no sugar, no carbs, and only 96 calories per 1.5 fluid ounces. Can you guess who it is? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! He worked with the small, family-owned distillery to make a fantastic tequila that is handmade in small batches. Teremana also comes as a Blanco and Reposado.

Teremana Blanco has notes of citrus (exquisitely bright from the brick oven roasting!) along with a smooth yet fresh finish. It is made with 100% Blue weber Highlands Agave and it is even certified gluten free! On the other hand, you have the Teremana Reposado which has all the perks of the Blanco but it brings additional notes of oak and vanilla because the aging process is completed in former bourbon barrels! The Reposado is a great option for those of you who love the taste of bourbon but want to start branching out and trying other spirits!

CINCORO TEQUILA – BLANCO AND AÑEJO

Cincoro Tequila was dreamed up by a group of five people: 4 NBA Team owners and 1 NBA player. The idea of starting the brand came when the group met for dinner and began to talk about tequila while they waited for their table. One thing was clear, they all were searching for a tequila that has a smooth, long finish similar to an upper-level cognac or whiskey. With the characteristics of the ideal tequila ironed out, the group came up with the name Cincoro based on the Spanish words for gold and five – forever sealing the group’s reputation with the brand. They then set out to create four tequilas: a Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo. We’ll explore the Blanco and Añejo as they are the two varieties that we carry here at Passion Vines!

Cincoro Blanco is made of Weber blue agave from both the highlands and lowlands of Jalisco, something that very few tequilas do very well. The blend of agave from different regions gives the tequila more complexity while maintaining the smooth, long-lasting flavor that the founders were searching for. When sipping the Cincoro Blanco, you’ll taste notes of fresh and cooked agave, lime, and grapefruit complemented by slight notes of vanilla. You’ll also be able to enjoy a long finish featuring flavors of fresh agave, citrus, vanilla, and pepper!

The Cincoro Añejo stands out from the competition because of the length that it is aged in the bourbon barrels. The old bourbon barrels are shipped from Kentucky and then the Cincoro Blanco is poured in and allowed to age anywhere between 24 and 28 months! On the nose, you’ll definitely smell the oak and maple from the bourbon barrels which give way to a combination of toasted oak, cooked agave, butterscotch, and dark chocolate on the palate. This tequila appears to be the gift that keeps giving as well because the flavors will continue to evolve as the finish lingers, often finishing with notes of cooked agave, dried fruit, and baking spices!

Now that you know a bit more about these brands and some of the specific tequilas that they produce, I hope you stop in and give one a try! They all seem to be great options if you’re trying to minimize the calories you take in when you drink and each one brings a unique flavor profile to the table. There definitely isn’t a wrong time of year to try tequila, so if you’re lost on what to try as we begin to transition into fall these products are a great start!
